#unravel at Inspace contd

I feel so inspired by the printed paper electronic possiblities from tonight's Unravel guests at Inspace that I think I might burst my stitches.

New Media Scotland introduced us to Jon Rogers from the University of Dundee (sketched), Kate Stone from Novalia, Pete Thomas from Uniform and Tommy Perman from FOUND, all en route to present their array of innovations at SXSW Interactive in Austin Texas next month. Everything is on paper or card, with printed circuits and magic ink.

In addition, we had the musical gadgets by FOUND and Aidan Moffat, still at Inspace and are there to be played with.

This collection of devices forms a reactive sound installation in which visitors can unravel the truth about a narrator’s life by playing records from his collection. A record player controls a series of custom musical instruments. These self-playing instruments soundtrack the story of the narrator as he recounts a memory from his life. Each record represents a different memory, but they sound different every time they are played.

That scruffy little camera of minimal pixels goes everywhere with me, for which I and everyone who has needed it, has usually been grateful. I do have a swanky SLR but I don't carry it around due to weather, size, weight, instruction manual etc. This year I'm going starting new photography projects with new cameras so in the meantime here's an old shot from the trusty wee point and shoot.

Today the university's anatomical museum opened its doors for the first of once a month public access days (last Saturday of every month, 10am - 4pm).

Just off The Meadows, the old medical school building itself is fascinating, and the exhibits are wonderful. Very helpful staff.

I found a macaroni penguin to draw. A famous little chap, as he appears in an (18th painting in the foyer too.
